Are You Ready? South End Open Market Opens

Looking for handmade jewelry? Handmade soap? A unique purse or a handpainted t-shirt?

Do we have the place for you.

Beginning this coming weekend (Saturday May 16th and Sunday May 17th), the South End Open Market (also known as the SOWA Market) kicks off a whole new season. The market, relatively young at only six years old, has become one of the largest weekly artisan markets to be found in Boston. Tucked away in a parking lot at 540 Harrison Avenue, the market is a unique blend of not only artisan wares and crafts, but art, produce and baked goods. More than 140 vendors will show their stuff at the upcoming opening.

This year, as a big change, the Open Market will also feature an antiques section. The new antiques market will be held inside the historic trolley barn at 540 Harrison. It will offer mid-century modern antiques, art noveau, art deco, art and prints, books, ephemera, pottery and glass, furniture and vintage clothing.

Though the big opening weekend is May 16 & 17, you’ll be able to catch the market every Sunday thereafter through October 25, 2009, including holiday weekends. Hours of Operation are 10am-4pm.
