Regent Hotel Leaves Battery Wharf Condos

Condo buyers had eagerly welcomed the new, ultra-luxurious $300 million Battery Wharf condo development that was to be run by the famous Regent Hotel. In fact, 60 percent of the development has already been sold, despite a tough market and condo prices between $1-$4 million. But there’s some bad news for condo buyers who chose the development specifically because of the Regent brand name. This month,  Regent Hotel & Resorts, who had formerly agreed to provide the top-shelf luxury concierge services in the building, pulled out of the deal, also leaving the 150-room hotel space adjacent to the development without a signature operator.

According to the Regent Hotel, “philosophical differences” with RBW LLC, the owner of the hotel, led the hotel to back out. RBW is now in negotiations with other hotel operators to run the space. In the meantime, condo buyers who have bought into the building that runs about $1,000+ per square foot will have to sit tight to hear who will walk their dogs and buy their theatre tickets.

While the matter is getting settled, those looking for luxury condo buildings with high-end hotel-like concierge services have plenty of other places to turn, even as the drama continues at Battery Wharf.  Similar buildings in downtown Boston include 45 Province near the old City Hall, the Belvedere near the Prudential Center, the Intercontinental Boston on the waterfront, and most recently, The Mandarin Residences in the Back Bay.

We moved in to Battery Wharf in early June, and all services are being provided: concierge, valet parking, security. The new hotel will manage the staffs, but the staffs are here already, even though the hotel has not opened yet.
The Michelin-chef restaurant and spa/fitness center will be opening in the next few months regardless of who operates the hotel.
All I can say is, it is very nice here!

    Hi Paul,

I’m glad to hear that all services are being provided over there. We look forward to hearing more about who will run the hotel…
